Mandy Collins

Mandy Collins is a writing, content and communications consultant and trainer who has spent the past 25 writing for a living.

She began her career writing about television and film, first for a local trade publication, and later as a television journalist on the Sunday Times. Thereafter she moved into consumer magazines, as the features editor for True Love, a woman’s magazine, where she also wrote and edited the health pages.

After being a features editor for a few years, Mandy returned to her first love, writing, and worked as a successful freelance writer, with her work being published in most of the major print publications in South Africa. During that time won the inaugural Embrace Award (2005) for health journalism (international, now defunct). She also published several of her own books as well as ghostwriting several others, two of which were bestsellers in their genre in South Africa. In addition, she has been both longlisted and shortlisted for the Golden Baobab prize for children’s literature.

Mandy is a passionate student of words, and has two postgraduate degrees, one in Journalism and Media Studies, and one in Sociolinguistics. She is an ardent supporter of multilingualism and plain language, and believes there’s great elegance in simplicity – in life as well as words. She speaks English, Afrikaans and a smattering of isiXhosa and French.

She lives in Johannesburg with her daughters.
