After a visit to the Isandlwana battlefield, Siphiwe and Sifiso beg their grandfather for a story.

He begins: In a kingdom ruled by the iron hand of Hlokohloko — a king so cruel he banishes anyone different, even his own son — young Sikhulumi finds himself cast out and alone. But deep in the wild, he trains under the watchful eye of Hlekehlathini, a wise and ancient creature. With courage and cunning, Sikhulumi unites the forest dwellers to rise up against his father’s tyranny.

Can this unlikely band of heroes defeat the Kingdom of the Iron Hand, just as the Zulu once triumphed at Isandlwana?

A tale of exile, defiance, and the power of unity — rooted in history, told with heart.

Impi yeHlathi and the Zazi Books | Clockwork Books Kubomntwana Author Development Programme are partly funded by the National Arts Council.
