Nolusindiso Dumezweni hails from the Tshatshweni clan and grew up in Cofimvaba, in the St Marks district of the Eastern Cape. She is one of eight siblings in a large, close-knit family and was raised by her grandmother in a lively home full of grandchildren. Her love of stories was born from evenings spent listening to her grandmother recount tales from her youth—sometimes real, sometimes imagined, always captivating. These storytelling sessions sparked a shared curiosity among the children, each inspired to craft and share their own tales.
The other children would often look to Nolusindiso to lead their games with a story. She would bring characters to life with vivid scenes and dialogue, a gift that has stayed with her ever since. Alongside her passion for storytelling, she finds joy in reading and listening to music.
